NOORA ALBAHRANi

A young woman with short dark hair, tattoos on her left thigh, multiple rings and earrings, and sunglasses on her head, squatting in a forest with green foliage and sunlight filtering through the trees, wearing a black leather jacket, a white sweater, and shorts.

Noora is Canadian-born Iraqi multi-disciplinary artist currently living and working in

Cairo, Egypt. Focused on illustration, writing, and body art, Noora’s work blends folk

art, political themes, and traditional Iraqi knowledge production by exploring themes

of radical love, resistance, and collective liberation. As a professional tattoo artist,

Noora’s artwork provides a unique edge, melding both conceptual illustration with

technique and craftsmanship. Intermingling traditional forms of Iraqi handpoke

tattooing (deq) with illustrative scenery, Noora's tattooing practice is rooted in cultural

preservation. Her artistic commitment is rooted in the revitalization of Arab artwork

through modern mediums and intellectual exploration. From her tattoos to her

illustrations, her artwork embodies both the past & the future of the Arab People.

Through movement and displacement, her artwork is an addition to the new

burgeoning wave of Arab-futurism as a form of political and cultural liberation. With

an acute technical eye, a proficiency in three languages, and a profound conceptual

vision, Noora's artwork is marked by its depth of character carving out new pathways

to socio-cultural unity.
